As the suitability of any educational system depends on its teachers’ competencies, it seems necessary to pay enough attention to the educational curriculum of the student- teachers of the Farhangian University. Hence, a reliable and valid researcher-made questionnaire including three components as skill, knowledge, and attitude developed for assessing the latest and the old English language teacher curriculums of Farhangian University was distributed among 87 English professors. The results of this study showed that from the English professors of Farhangian University’s point of view, there was a significant difference between the old and the latest English language teacher curricula in increasing the professional competencies of student-teachers of Farhangian University. This means that the latest curriculum as compared to the old one will considerably be more successful in increasing the skills and attitudes of the student-teachers. Furthermore, the results of the current research also indicated that the latest curriculum will be more successful in increasing the student-teachers’ PCK (Pedagogical Content Knowledge), CK (Content Knowledge) and PK (Pedagogical Knowledge).

In the mid-twentieth century, critical pedagogy was at the forefront of educational theorists’ focus, and curriculum designers sought to combine critical pedagogy practices with university curricula. Therefore, by using quantitative method through a survey and an introspective longitudinal study, the present research was conducted to investigate the critical attitude of undergraduate (BA) and postgraduate (MA) students. Accordingly, a Critical Pedagogy Attitude Questionnaire, developed by Pishvaei and Kasaian (2013), was distributed among 164 male and female students (in the first and last semester of study). The participants were majoring in English translation and Applied Linguistics courses at four universities in Markazi province. The reliability of this questionnaire through Cronbach’s alpha was .93. Then, statistical tests such as the Mann-Whitney test and one-way ANOVA indicated that the students’ critical pedagogy attitudes did not significantly grow in the process of education from the first to the last semester. The results of this study are useful for students, professors, and curriculum designers. They also provide critical insight for EFL students.

The materials which are produced to be used at national level are of great importance since they are supposed to feed a wide range of audience. Therefore, critical review of such materials is among the critics’ priorities. In this review article, the newly-published English language materials for grade ten in Iran including the textbook, workbook, and CD will be analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. After reviewing the history of producing such materials in the previous periods, the current work was analyzed in terms of its structure and theoretical framework. Then, its content was analyzed via comparing its elements with those of the communicative approach as the mainstream framework in the realm of language teaching. The analyses indicated that, considering the wide range of audience, the current work is in urgent need of revision if it intends to meet the objectives of foreign language learning in the curriculum.
